The summer transfer market in the Premier League 2024/2025 is very busy. The activity peaks on deadline day.
A number of transfers have been completed. There are big transfers, but also some that are quite surprising.
These include the transfer of Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United, Ivan Toney to Saudi Arabia, and Raheem Sterling joining Arsenal.
Reported by the official Premier League website, here are some of them.
Manchester United Recruit Ugarte from PSG
Manchester United have recruited defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte from French champions PSG, with this agreement still awaiting the registration process.
The 23-year-old Uruguayan has agreed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a 12-month extension.
“The project that the football management discussed with me is very interesting; Manchester United is an ambitious club, and I am an ambitious player,” Ugarte told the club’s official website.
Sterling Joins Arsenal from Chelsea on Loan
Arsenal made one of the big moves on Deadline Day. They have signed Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
Sterling, 29, moved to north London after his form at Stamford Bridge declined under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The England international scored eight goals and provided four assists in 31 Premier League appearances last season and will add depth to Arsenal’s squad on the wing.
Palace sign Nketiah from Arsenal
Crystal Palace have signed striker Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on a five-year deal.
Having grown up at Deptford, Nketiah returns to south London having scored 38 goals in 168 appearances for Arsenal, averaging a goal every 180 minutes. He scored his first Premier League hat-trick last season against Sheffield United.
Nketiah told Palace’s official website: “I’m really excited to get started. Every time I come back to south London it always puts a smile on my face, so it’s great to be back home.”
Toney leaves Brentford
Brentford forward Ivan Toney has left the club on a permanent basis after entering the final year of his contract. He has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, subject to international clearance.
Toney scored 72 goals in 141 appearances for the Bees, helping them to promotion to the Premier League in 2021, and has remained there ever since.
“It has been a pleasure working with Ivan over the last four years,” head coach Thomas Frank told the club’s official website. “He averaged more than a goal every two games, which is an incredible figure.”
“I am delighted that he has had the opportunity to try something new in his life and career. We thank him for so many magical moments, and wish him the best for the next chapter. Ivan leaves a Brentford legend.”
Southampton sign Ramsdale from Arsenal
Southampton have signed goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal on a four-year deal.
Ramsdale, 26, has made 89 appearances for the Gunners over the last three seasons in all competitions. He has played 153 times in the Premier League, including spells with AFC Bournemouth (twice) and Sheffield United.
Arsenal sign Neto from Bournemouth
Following Ramsdale’s departure, Arsenal signed goalkeeper Neto from Bournemouth on a season-long loan.
The 35-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper has made 61 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth since joining in August 2022, keeping 13 clean sheets. He was named captain just six months after arriving at the Vitality Stadium.
Neto told Arsenal’s official website: “I had two dreams as a child to play for a football team, the team in Brazil, where I grew up and became a professional footballer, and also Arsenal. Now I’m making it happen! I’m a really lucky guy.”
McTominay Leaves Manchester United
Midfielder Scott McTominay has left Manchester United to join Napoli on a permanent deal.
The 27-year-old came through the Man Utd academy and made his debut in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. During his time at the club, McTominay made 255 first-team appearances. Of those, 178 came in the Premier League, where he scored 19 goals and provided four assists.
In a statement on Manchester United’s official website, the club said: “McTominay will be missed by everyone at the club and leaves with our very best wishes as he begins a new chapter in his career in Italy. Good luck Scott, arrivederci and thanks for the great memories.”
West Ham Sign Spanish Midfielder Carlos Soler
West Ham have signed Spanish international midfielder Carlos Soler on loan from PSG until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old, who has 14 caps for Spain, previously made 226 appearances for Valencia, winning the Copa del Rey. He joined PSG in 2022, winning two Ligue 1 titles, the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions.
West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten told the club’s official website: “We have been admirers of him for some time, and although we had to wait until the final day of the summer transfer window to secure his services, we are very pleased that he has joined us for the remainder of the season.”
Liverpool Send Bajcetic to Austria
Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has joined Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old, who has made 12 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, scoring one goal, will link up with Salzburg head coach Pepijn Lijnders once again. Lijnders was Jurgen Klopp’s assistant manager at Liverpool, who left Anfield with the German manager this summer.
