The Premier League is preparing to strike back at the controversial five-day ban imposed by FIFA on players who were removed from international duties this week, according to reports.
Top players from Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all set to miss domestic matches as the fallout between clubs and international football associations continues.
Several South American federations have called on FIFA to impose a five-day ban which would prevent some Premier League clubs from fielding some players in upcoming domestic matches.
The Brazilian federation have called on Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino to miss Liverpool matches over the next five days.
This would include Sunday’s clash with Leeds, for whom winger Raphinha will also not be allowed to play.
It will also affect Ederson and Gabriel Jesus at Man City, Thiago Silva at Chelsea and Fred at Man Utd.
Argentina’s FA have also complained to FIFA, which will leave Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso out of Tottenham’s game against Crystal Palace this weekend, while Emi Martinez and Emi Buendia will not be available for Aston Villa.
The same rule will also apply to Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, Francisco Sierralta of Watford, Newcastle playmaker Miguel Almiron and Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz after the federations of Mexico, Paraguay and of Chile have clearly expressed their dissatisfaction.
But, according to Goal, the Premier League is ready to step in and want to find a solution for the clubs.
In fact, Premiere League clubs were not allowed players to travel to Red List countries because government rules mean anyone who does must self-quarantine in a managed “quarantine hotel” upon their return.
