Premier League Preview: Everything Up for Grabs except Top Spot

With the Premier League drawing to a close in the last match week of this season, things start to get crowded at the top. Leicester claimed the title remarkably with two games to spare and are now ten points ahead of their closest rivals Spurs. However things are not done and dusted as we move down from the top spot. The second, third and fourth spot could all be well and truly re shuffled by the end of the weekend as things stand.

Tottenham have accumulated a total of 70 points and have a confirmed Champions League spot, however they won’t be feeling comfortable looking at their back and seeing Arsenal chasing them with 68 points. A tie would be good enough for Spurs to give them a second spot, the highest they have ever finished in the Premier League since its creation in 1992-93.

Thoughts of finishing second are a likely prospect for Arsenal, given Spurs loose to the already relegated Newcastle and the Gunners manage to see off the, also relegated, Aston Villa at the Emirates. But as things stand, Arsenal could well and truly loose the third spot as well. They are being chased down by the volatile Manchester City who have had a rather eventful season. City and Arsenal are separated by 3 points. City could land a third place finish if Arsenal even draws with Villa and they manage to beat Swansea. City’s cause will be helped by the fact that they have won six and lost none of their last seven meetings with Swansea.

But again, if Manchester City fail to win and their city rivals, Manchester United beat Bournemouth at Old Trafford, it would mean City would be contesting the Europa Cup next season under the management of their newly appointed boss Pep Guardiola. Manchester United’s bid to Champions League football was dealt with a harsh blow midweek when they were beaten by a spirited West Ham side in their Farewell game at the Boleyn Ground. The Hammers could again spoil the party for United by winning their match against Stoke and hope that United drop points at Old Trafford.

Things are really crowded up top from 2nd place to 6th position. Such is the passion and fight to claim the spots for European Competitions. Things are also tight in the race for the Golden boot. Harry Kane leads the goal scoring tally with 25 to his name, closely chased down by Aguero and Vardy.

Irrespective of the Leicester winning the League story, this has been an incredible season with lots of twists and turns. The league has had some excellent games with lots of goals and incredible saves and beautiful crowd spirit. If this last match week is anything like the entire season, we are in for one heck of a closing.
