Liverpool drew 3-3 against promoted team, Brentford in the sixth week of the Premier League at the Community Stadium, Saturday (25/9).
This result keeps Liverpool at the top of the standings. The Reds, who have 14 points, are one point ahead of Manchester City, who is in second place.
At the start of the first half, Liverpool had mastered the match. They immediately get a chance when the game has been running for seven minutes.
Mohamed Salah fired a shot at David Raya and almost scored. Luckily, Kristoffer Ajer responded swiftly and saved the ball near the goal line.
However, four minutes later it was Brentford’s turn to get a golden opportunity through Mbuemo. He hung Alisson with a chip kick but was immediately cleared by Joel Matip who managed to catch the ball.
After 25 minutes of the game running, the home team came close to scoring again. Mbuemo again threatened the Liverpool goal with a hard kick but Alisson was able to deny it again.
Brentford, who played in public alone, was able to take the lead over Liverpool in the 27th minute. The host defender, Ethan Pinnock managed to break into Alisson’s goal using a pass from the right side of the attack.
The hosts’ advantage lasted only four minutes. Liverpool could equalize through Diogo Jota’s header using Jordan Henderson’s cross.
In the 39th minute, Jota even almost scored his second goal in this match. The ball vomited by Curtis Jones’ kick that hit the post was able to be cheated by Jota but Brentford goalkeeper David Raya was still able to parry Jota’s kick and only resulted in a corner kick.
In the second half, Liverpool took the lead over Brentford for the first time. Liverpool’s mainstay wing striker, Mohamed Salah put his name on the scoreboard after receiving Fabinho’s measured pass.
Salah’s goal was disallowed by the referee because it was considered offside. However, the referee approved Salah’s goal after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) showed the Egyptian winger behind the last man in the home defence.
Brentford responded to their loss with more courage in applying pressure. That approach was fruitful because Vitaly Janelt was able to break into Alisson’s goal with a shot from close range in the 63rd minute.
Four minutes later, Liverpool took the lead over Brentford again. Jones’ powerful shot from outside the penalty area hit the foot of defender Brentford to trick David Raya and the ball went into the net.
Brentford didn’t just give up. Starting from the chaos that occurred in the Liverpool penalty box, substitute Yoanne Wissa was able to thrill the Liverpool goal to make the score 3-3 in the 82nd minute.
In the remaining time of the match Liverpool had a golden opportunity through Roberto Firmino. However, Firmino’s strike was brilliantly thwarted by Raya to keep the score 3-3 until the second half ended.
