Last week, Tottenham Hotspur appeared mighty by defeating the leaders of the Premier League standings, Manchester City with a score of 3-2.
Now, Tottenham have to give up with a score of 0-1 when they visit the headquarters of the bottom team Burnley.
The Burnley vs Tottenham match is took place at Turf Moor Stadium in the postponed Premier League 2021/22 party, Wednesday (23/2/2022).
In this match, the only goal of Burnley’s victory over Antonio Conte’s side was created by Ben Mee in the middle of the second half.
In the first half, Tottenham did dominate the game more in terms of ball possession. However, Harry Kane cs had difficulty dismantling the host’s defense.
Returning from the dressing room, Conte also entered Harry Winks to replace Rodrigo Bentancur. Spurs also had a golden opportunity at the beginning of the second half.
Instead of scoring a goal, Tottenham actually had to concede in the 71st minute when Mee successfully headed in Josh Brownhill’s free kick to find Hugo Lloris’ goal.
Tottenham tried hard to equalize. However, their efforts were fruitless until the long whistle sounded.
This defeat made Tottenham also have to settle for being stuck in eighth in the standings with 39 points. Meanwhile, an additional 3 points made Burnley move up to 18th place with 20 points.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Antonio Conte admits he will consider his future at the Premier League club after admitting he didn’t deserve the big fee at the London club after their 1-0 loss to Burnley
Conte’s hopes of leading Spurs to a top-four Premier League finish were hit hard by Ben Mee’s second-half goal at Turf Moor.
Just days after a 3-2 win over leaders Manchester City, Spurs returned to the poor form that has colored their season.
It was the fourth defeat in five Premier League games for Spurs, who are stuck in eighth place, seven points adrift of fourth and a place in next season’s Champions League.
Conte looks very devastated by the defeat to Burnley. The coach who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked last November, appears to have hinted that he will leave Spurs if the Lilliwhites’ form does not improve.
Saying he would like to speak to club management about the situation at Spurs, Conte said: “When you lose four of five games it means the club has to make judgments and negotiate to find the best solution.”
“In this situation, the players at the club don’t change. The club can change the manager but the players don’t and the result remains the same.”
“This is the reality. Nobody deserves this situation, the club, me, the players and the fans.”
“I came here to improve the situation at Tottenham but maybe I wasn’t good enough.”
“I’m too honest to turn a blind eye. There must be an assessment of the club about me,” he continued.
Conte has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with Spurs’ decision to sell a number of players in the January transfer window but only brought in two.
The former Inter Milan and Chelsea player admits Spurs’ current condition is more like a club struggling to escape relegation.
“I’m not used to this situation. The situation has not changed. In fact, in the last five games, we fought to escape relegation,” Conte said.
“It’s a fact. I can’t close my eyes. I have to be responsible and open to any decision that can help Spurs. Keeping losing is not good for anyone and I can’t accept defeat.”
“From day one, I wanted to help. Because of that, I didn’t feel worthy of the payment that was given to me,” he concluded.
