Arsenal won 3-1 over Chelsea in Week 15 of the Premier League which took place at the Emirates Stadium, Sunday (27/12).
Arsenal tried to appear aggressive since kick-off. Unfortunately, Gabriel Martinelli’s shot was wide of the target. Chelsea did not want to lose by threatening through Mason Mount’s action which was saved by the goalpost.
Arsenal and Chelsea are both trying to appear offensive by taking advantage of ball possession in the match titled the London derby.
The Gunners pressing was opposed by the Blues with accurate passes that made it difficult for opponents to grab the ball. Despite minimal possession of the ball, Arsenal tried to appear effective. In the 32nd minute, Kieran Tierney’s effort to dribble the ball into the penalty box is violated by Reece James.
Arsenal took the lead after Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty was not cleared by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
One of the club that won the title in the Premier League era then added another goal in the 43rd minute. This time through a long-range free kick released by Granit Xhaka.
Entering 10 minutes of the second half Arsenal added another advantage through Bukayo Saka who fired a shot at the far post and made the ball hit the post before it was scored.
Chelsea, who tried to pursue Arsenal’s excellence, could not do much. Efforts to penetrate the host’s defense endless goals.
Entering the 80th minute Arsenal had the opportunity to add a goal through Lacazette using Edouard Mendy’s mistake. After that in the 84th minute there was chaos in front of the Chelsea goal, but no goals were scored.
In the 85th minute, Tammy Abraham broke into Arsenal’s goal and the goal was passed after the referee asked for help from a video assistant referee.
At the last minute of normal time the referee pointed to the spot again because of Pablo Mari’s foul on Mason Mount. Jorginho failed to do a good job. Bernd Leno read the direction of the ball well and made sure there were no additional goals for Chelsea.
This victory brought Arsenal up one position to 14th with 17 points. While Chelsea is still in fifth place with 25 points.
