Premier League Results: Chelsea Beat Arsenal 2-0

Chelsea won 2-0 over Arsenal in the second week of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium, Sunday (22/8).

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe posed a threat in the second minute with a left-footed shot but was caught by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea took the lead in the 15th minute through their new signing, Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker managed to break into Bernd Leno’s goal after utilizing Reece James’s horizontal cross from the right side.

Mason Mount’s shot from inside the penalty box after receiving James’s pass was blocked by the Arsenal defense.

James, who was the feeder for Lukaku’s goal, also registered his name on the scoreboard in the 35th minute. The England defender’s goal was created after receiving Mason Mount’s through ball.

Despite being two goals behind, Arsenal continued to put pressure on Chelsea. However, a number of scoring opportunities are often broken in the Blues defense.

In the 41st minute Bukayo Saka was brought down by Reece James in the penalty box, but the referee Paul Tierney did not consider it a violation and chose to continue the game. Chelsea winning 2-0 in the first half.

Mendy made a brilliant save in the 52nd minute by deflecting Bukayo Saka’s kick from outside the penalty box which had hit Cesar Azpilicueta.

Attempts to score goals were also carried out by Rob Holding in the 60th minute after receiving feedback from Pablo Mari’s header who took advantage of Nicolas Pepe’s corner. However, Holding’s header was still thin on the left side of the Chelsea goal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who entered in the second half also did not want to be left behind in creating chances. Aubameyang kick from inside the penalty box in the 63rd minute caught by Mendy.

Bernd Leno kept Arsenal from conceding three goals in the 77th minute after parrying Lukaku’s header from Antonio Rudiger’s cross.

Hakim Ziyech’s desire to increase Chelsea’s lead in the 88th minute ran aground after his shot was blocked by the Arsenal defense.

Chelsea finally won 2-0 over Arsenal after no additional goals in the second half. Three points from the city rivals were enough for Chelsea to shift the position of Liverpool, who the day before topped the standings after beating Burnley 2-0.

In addition to Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur also experienced an increase in position, which won twice in a row after silencing Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium.

The Lilywhites’ victory was determined by the execution of a Dele Alli penalty in the 10th minute. Alli’s single goal took Tottenham up six places to fourth.

Tottenham’s achievement displaces Manchester United, who in the first week filled the top of the standings. After a 1-1 draw with Southampton at St. Mary’s, Manchester United is now down to fifth place with a collection of 4 points from two matches.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s second defeat in the first two matches after a 0-2 defeat to Chelsea made the club nicknamed the Gunners sink into the relegation zone.

Currently the North London club is in 19th place behind Newcastle United, ahead of Norwich City.
