Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes scored a goal each as Manchester United beat Fulham 2-1 on Sunday and ended their Premier League on high.
Fulham went ahead in the 19th minute when Kenny Tete headed home from Willian’s corner but Fulham missed the chance to double their advantage seven minutes later when Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty was saved by David de Gea.
Manchester United took the initiative to be more attacking and in the 39th minute Sancho equalized from close range before Fred’s through ball set up Fernandes for a 55th minute winner.
These results do not make changes to the position of the Premier League standings. The Red Devils finished the season in third place, while Fulham finished 10th.
Cairney nearly equalized in the 76th minute after he fired over the bar before unmarked Wout Weghorst missed a fine chance to end his loan spell in Manchester with a goal.
Manchester United will now turn their attention to next week’s FA Cup final, where they will face Manchester City.
Ten Hag United’s side will be looking for a second trophy of the season, adding to their Carabao Cup success in February.
“There is still one game to go and I’m sure these players will give everything to beat Manchester City next week. So we need that from you too,” Ten Hag told the fans at Old Trafford.
“Thank you for everything. I believe we have a very good chance to bring the cup back to Old Trafford,” explained Ten Hag.
Fulham manager Marco Silva said his team did not deserve to lose the game.
“The game changed completely from then on,” Silva told the BBC. “We should have reacted in a different way. It was a moment for us to show maturity and handle the game in a different way, but we haven’t.”
