Manchester City won dramatically over Manchester United in Week 27 of the 2023-2024 Premier League. The two teams faced each other at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (3/3/2024).
The Citizens – Man City’s nickname – secured full points after winning convincingly 3-1. Phil Foden’s brace and Erling Haaland’s goal brought the home team back after falling behind.
Manchester City immediately started playing aggressively from the early minutes. The Citizens had the opportunity to score a quick goal through Phil Foden’s action.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, the visiting Manchester United team was still solid enough to withstand attacks from the Manchester Blue players. The surprise occurred in the eighth minute when Marcus Rashford managed to put Man United ahead.
Rashford got his name on the scoreboard with a hard shot which Ederson failed to block. Man City, who were left behind, played more aggressively to equalize. However, the score 1-0 in favor of the Red Devils lasted until the break.
Entering the second half, Manchester City regained control of the ball over the visitors. Pep Guardiola’s troops look very ambitious in finding an equalizer against Manchester United.
After carrying out a number of attempts, the long-awaited goal was finally scored in the 56th minute. Phil Foden brought Man City equalizer with a hard shot from outside the penalty box.
Manchester City continued to attack the Red Devils’ defense in the second half. As a result, they managed to score two goals again through the actions of Phil Foden (80′) and Erling Haaland (90+1′).
This victory makes Manchester City continue to stick to the top of the Premier League standings, Liverpool. The Citizens are now only one point behind with a collection of 62 points from 27 matches.
Guardiola emphasized that Manchester City has succeeded in spreading a threat in the race for the Premier League title. The Spanish coach asked The Citizens to focus on winning rather than thinking about other teams.
“This is about us. We can’t control what Liverpool or Arsenal, Aston Villa or any other competitor does, it’s about us. We do what we have to do to win today, next Wednesday and Sunday. “This team is legendary,” said Guardiola, quoted by BBC International, Monday (4/3/2024).
Even so, Guardiola is still not sure that Manchester City can win the Premier League title this season. Because according to him, the competing teams this time played very well compared to last season.
“Will we do it? I don’t know. We currently have more points at this stage than last season. The difference is Liverpool have them,” said the former Barcelona coach.
“I don’t know how many more points there are than at this stage last season. When opponents behave like this, what can I say, congratulations so far. “We will continue to try match after match,” he concluded
