Manchester United drew against Leicester City with a score of 2-2 in the Premier League match at the King Power Stadium, Saturday (26/12).
Both teams demonstrated open play from the early minutes. But in the first 20 minutes, both Leicester and Manchester United were still having trouble finding opportunities.
The new stalemate broke in the 23rd minute through Marcus Rashford. This goal stems from Daniel James’s shot which was deflected in the direction of Bruno Fernandes.
Free-standing Marcus Rashford coldly sent the ball into the corner of the net beyond the reach of Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Manchester United’s excitement lasted only eight minutes. In the 31st minute, Leicester scored an equalizer through Harvey Barnes.
This goal could not be separated from Bruno Fernandes’ mistake so that the ball was captured by James Maddison in the Manchester United defense. Maddison then handed the ball to Barnes.
Seeing Manchester United players not approaching and just shadowing, Barnes fired hard from outside the penalty box. The ball rolled swiftly without being stopped by David de Gea.
After a 1-1 draw in the first half, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to enter Paul Pogba to replace Daniel James in the 54th minute.
In the 60th minute, Rashford faced Schmeichel again in a one-on-one duel. But this time, Schmeichel could guess and block Rashford’s shot.
Two minutes later, Anthony Martial was able to thrill Leicester’s goal. However, the goal was disallowed because Martial was in an offside position when he received the ball.
In the 70th minute, Harry Maguire who stepped forward to help the attack managed to head the ball in a free kick scheme. But his header was still way over the goal.
In the last 15 minutes, Solskjaer decided to lower Edinson Cavani to replace Anthony Martial.
The changes had an immediate impact on the ground. Cavani was able to discern the movement of Bruno Fernandes and immediately sent the ball to the Portuguese midfielder. Fernandes successfully beat Schmeichel and changed the score to 2-1.
Like Manchester United, Leicester also turned out to be making good substitutions. Ayoze Perez who entered in the 81st minute provided an assist for Vardy in the 85th minute. Vardy’s movement was not guarded by the back line so he could easily strike the ball from close range.
Score 2-2 draw lasted until the game was over.
