Liverpool managed to beat Manchester United through a 5-0 victory in the Premier League continued at Old Trafford Stadium, Sunday (24/10). Mohamed Salah Hattrick.
Man Utd’s poor defense in the first half was successfully exploited by Liverpool’s attackers who appeared violent. The fast attack built by the visitors was difficult to stop by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
Liverpool’s advantage was opened when the game had only been running for five minutes. Mohamed Salah’s mature bait into the penalty box was easily completed by Naby Keita who was not guarded.
Man Utd’s fragile defense was again punished in the 13th minute. Poor coordination between Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw in front of the penalty box made the ball successfully controlled by Liverpool players.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s horizontal pull bait from the right was struck by Diogo Jota who was not guarded in front of goal. Score 2-0 to Liverpool’s advantage.
Man Utd are not without opportunities. In the 22nd minute, Luke Shaw fired hard from outside the penalty box but the ball still deviated slightly in the bottom right corner of the Liverpool goal.
Seven minutes later, it was Mason Greenwood’s turn who got a golden opportunity. Unfortunately, the curved shot released by the English player could still be pushed over by Alisson.
Instead of scoring a reply, the Man United goal broke again in the 38th minute. Keita’s pull bait on the right side was successfully grabbed by Salah in front of the penalty box to change the score to 3-0.
The situation had heated up in injury time. A frustrated Cristiano Ronaldo was given a yellow card for kicking Curtis Jones’ leg during a duel for the ball in the Liverpool defense area.
The suffering of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad continued in the final minutes. Salah’s close-range shot took advantage of Diogo Jota’s short pass to increase Liverpool’s advantage to 4-0 at the end of the first half.
Entering the second half, the Old Trafford public bowed again after Salah scored a hat-trick in the 50th minute. The Egypt international winger managed to outwit De Gea after utilizing a breakthrough bait from Jordan Henderson.
United fans cheered after Ronaldo scored with a curling kick in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, the referee annulled the goal after reviewing VAR.
Man Utd’s efforts to catch up were even more difficult after Paul Pogba was sent off in the 61st minute. The referee sent a red card to Pogba who was considered a hard foul on Keita.
Pogba’s red card practically made the tension of the game drop drastically. Man Utd defended more while Liverpool played more of the ball in the middle while stalling for time.
The score 5-0 for Liverpool’s advantage lasted until the game was over. Thus, Jurgen Klopp’s squad has the right to occupy the second position in the Premier League standings with 21 points or one point away from Chelsea who are at the top. Meanwhile, Man United had to settle for seventh place with 14 points.
