Liverpool suffered a 1-3 defeat when hosted by Leicester City in the Premier League match at the King Power Stadium, Saturday (13/2).
Liverpool took the initiative to attack from the start of the first half. The dominance of the game made Leicester more defensive.
Leicester, who continued to be pressed, could create opportunities in the 11th minute. Vardy got a through ball from James Maddison but his shot was just over Alisson Becker’s crossbar.
Salah is the Liverpool player who is the most active in threatening Leicester. Several opportunities and passes were given to Salah but it could not lead to the opening goal for the Reds.
In the 20th minute, Mane gets a chance to score if his shot from inside the penalty box is not blocked by the Foxes defender.
Leicester just got the first golden opportunity in the 36th minute. However, Vardy’s header from Harvey Barnes’s cross was still right in Alisson’s catch.
Three minutes later it was Liverpool’s turn to spread threats. This time, Andy Robertson’s shot that rose to help the attack was still blocked by a Leicester defender who appeared disciplined.
Three minutes before the first half ended, Vardy got another chance. Vardy, who escaped the offside trap, released a hard kick which still hit the Liverpool crossbar.
After that there were no chances that the two teams could create. The 0-0 draw lasted until the first half ended.
At the start of the second half, Liverpool got the best chance to excel in this match. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick still hits the Leicester crossbar despite being able to trick Schmeichel.
Liverpool, who appeared to be pressing, managed to open the scoring in the 67th minute. Firmino’s beautiful bait in the penalty box can be completed by Salah with a shot to the far post that Schmeichel cannot reach.
Leicester can score the equalizer against Liverpool in the 79th minute. Maddison’s free kick was approved by the referee after seeing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) first.
Two minutes later, Leicester actually turned 2-1 ahead. Alisson and Ozan Kabak’s coordination error was easily exploited by Vardy to make the score 2-1.
Vardy almost increased Leicester’s lead to 3-1. Vardy shot straight at goal but Alisson made a brilliant save which kept Liverpool from conceding an additional goal.
Liverpool slumped further in the 85th minute. Barnes tricks Alisson using a measured pass from Wilfred Ndidi. The 3-1 score lasted until the second half ended at the same time giving defeat to Liverpool.
