Premier League Results: Liverpool Qualified for the Champions League

Liverpool managed to qualify for the Champions League next season after playing the last Premier League match this season, Sunday (23/5).

Liverpool made sure to qualify for the Champions League after being ranked third after beating Crystal Palace 2-0.

Liverpool’s winning goal in this match was bought up by Sadio Mane, following Roberto Firmino’s pass for the first goal and Mohamad Salah’s assist for the second.

Meanwhile, Leicester failed to secure fourth place in the Premier League final standings or the Champions League zone, after defeat 2-4 against Tottenham Hotspur.

Two goals from Leicester in this match were bought by Jamie Vardy in the 18th and 52nd minutes. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s goal was scored by Harry Kane, Kasper Schmeichel’s own goal and Gareth Bale’s two goals.

In other matches, Chelsea fell 1-2 from Aston Villa. This defeat makes Chelsea rank fourth in the Premier League final standings this season and automatically qualify for the Champions League.

Chelsea’s only goal was scored by Ben Chilwell in the 70th minute. Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s goals were scored by Bertrand Traore and Anwar El-Ghazi with penalties.

Meanwhile, in another Premier League match this season, Manchester City successfully beat Everton with a score of 5-0. Manchester City’s goal feast was donated by Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Sergio Aguero’s two goals.

This success was also followed by their city team, Manchester United, which won 2-1 over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Two goals from Manchester United were created by Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata.

Arsenal also won 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. Two Arsenal goals were bought up by Nicolas Pepe.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp admitted that he did not think his players would qualify for the Champions League next season.

Liverpool’s success in qualifying for the Champions League also feels even sweeter. Mane et al could finish under Manchester City and Manchester United even though they had previously stumbled in the middle of the Premier League standings.

Klopp also admitted that he did not think Liverpool could secure a place in the Champions League next season. For the German coach to finish third is already an extraordinary achievement.

“I am very happy because the Champions League does not have to play without us. This is an extraordinary achievement from the players. I did not expect. The third finish was extraordinary,” Klopp said as reported by the Daily Mail.

“This is incredible. I said it was impossible 5 or 10 weeks ago [qualify for the Champions League], it is not possible. But what the players did from this situation was really extraordinary, the way they played today for example,” he continued.

Liverpool do have to struggle to win a place in the top four of the Premier League. This is because the various bad results achieved by Liverpool have knocked them out of the title race and the hunt for tickets to the European stage.

Liverpool have problems with consistency to achieve positive results. In fact, Liverpool had swallowed six consecutive defeats at Anfield from January 22 to March 7, 2021.

In difficult situations, Liverpool are able to show the winning mentality they have. The port city team is unbeaten in the last 10 games with eight wins and two draws in the Premier League.

The series of good results has made Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season open again. The collector of 19 Premier League titles can even finish above Chelsea and Leicester City who were above them.
