Manchester United had to settle for a goalless draw against Watford in the Premier League match at Old Trafford, Saturday (26/2).
Throughout the match, Watford were disciplined to maintain defense. While Man United failed to produce a real threat. Throughout the match, the Red Devils only fired three shots on target from 22 attempts.
Manchester United fully dominated the duel in the first half. They had a total of eight shots and had 66 percent possession.
But despite appearing dominant, Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends did not succeed in vibrating the Watford goal.
Man United almost opened the scoring in the fifth minute through Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Ronaldo’s kick from Anthony Elanga’s bait still hit the post.
In the 12th minute, Elanga again provided a nice pass, this time for Bruno Fernandes. Unfortunately, Fernandes, who was already dealing with the goalkeeper, failed to take advantage of the opportunity, after his shot was blocked by Foster.
Three minutes later, Ronaldo managed to score a goal. However, the linesman raised his flag because CR7 was already in an offside position.
After a goalless draw in the first half, both Man Utd and Watford were both still trying to play openly in the second half.
Watford recorded the first shot on target in this match after Emmanuel Dennis’ shot was caught by David De Gea in the 52nd minute.
In the 56th minute, Anthony Elanga got a chance after getting a heel from Paul Pogba. But Elanga’s shot was wide on the right side of the goal.
In the 61st minute, Bruno Fernandes was able to snatch the ball in the Watford defense. Fernandes then sent a pass to Ronaldo but Ronaldo’s shot could still be countered by Watford’s back line.
In order to increase attack, Ralf Rangnick decides to field Jadon Sancho to replace Fred.
In the 67th minute, Fernandes’ cross into the Watford penalty box also could not be maximized properly by Ronaldo and Pogba.
Man Utd again tried to improve attacks through the presence of Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford on the field.
In the 90th minute, Jadon Sancho tried to open a shot from outside the penalty box but the ball was still far from the target. In injury time, Bruno Fernandes fired a long-range shot but it was caught well by Ben Foster.
A 0-0 draw lasted until the game was over.
This result makes Man United stuck in fourth place, and only two points ahead of Arsenal in fifth position who have three games in hand.
