Cristiano Ronaldo made a phenomenal debut with Manchester United by scoring two goals that led the Red Devils to a 4-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League, Saturday (11/9).
Appearing at Old Trafford Stadium, Ronaldo managed to become the hero of Man Utd’s victory to stop Newcastle’s resistance which appeared quite disciplined.
Ronaldo had a series of opportunities since the early minutes, but the long-awaited goal only arrived in the first half injury time. The goal occurred utilizing a wild ball in front of goal.
The ex-Juventus was in an ideal position to continue throwing up the ball from Mason Greenwood’s shot which Newcastle goalkeeper Freddy Woodman could not anticipate perfectly.
The score 1-0 for the host advantage lasted until the first half was over.
However, the visitors had a surprise early in the second half. Javier Manquillo’s shot utilizing Allan Saint-Maximin’s assist made David De Gea’s goal vibrate in the 56th minute.
Six minutes later, Ronaldo again brought Man United ahead. Luke Shaw’s breakthrough bait was completed by a left foot shot that shot between Woodman’s legs.
Ronaldo’s second goal made United even more excited and his compatriot in the Portugal national team, Bruno Fernandes, managed to widen the advantage in the 80th minute.
Receiving Paul Pogba’s short pass outside the penalty box, without thinking Bruno Fernandes scored a measured shot to the right of the goal.
3-1 advantage does not necessarily make Man United satisfied. The beautiful collaboration of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, and Jesse Lingard bears goal.
Lingard became the last person in the penalty box to successfully break into Newcastle’s goal in injury time. Man United also ended the victory with a score of 4-1 over Newcastle.
Ronaldo admitted that he was nervous at the beginning of the match in front of Man Utd fans. At least Ronaldo wasted two chances at the beginning of the first half.
However, Ronaldo’s sharpness has not faded with the two goals he scored in the first and second half, respectively.
“It’s amazing. When I started the game I was very nervous, I swear. Maybe it’s not visible but I was nervous,” said Ronaldo quoted by Sky Sports.
Ronaldo did not expect to score two goals at once on his second debut at Man United. However, the most important thing for him is to be able to help Man Utd win an important victory.
He also admitted that he was proud to be back at Man Utd, the club that bring his name to being able to compete as the world’s best player.
“I belong to Manchester United. I arrived here at 18 and they treated me amazingly and this is why I came back. I am very proud to be here and want to win.
Although he has tasted many titles with Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo has always considered the Premier League special.
“Everyone knows that English football is different from any part of the world. I have played everywhere and, to be honest, England is the most special,” said the owner of six Ballon d’Or titles.
