Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in the Premier League continued at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Saturday (30/10).
Tottenham got space to launch an attack in the early minutes. The first opportunity came through Son Heung Min’s kick in the sixth minute which resulted in a corner kick.
Man Utd slowly tried to press and play in the Tottenham defense area. The tempo of the game is moderate. Both teams struggled to get further into the final third area.
Son again threatened the Man Utd goal when he got a through ball in the 24th minute. The South Korean player’s kick still bounced from David De Gea’s goal. Son’s chance was rewarded by Edinson Cavani’s header which was still wide.
Entering the 27th minute, the Man Utd goal broke. Son’s corner was headed by Eric Dier and continued by Cristian Romero. Romero’s position before receiving the ball is declared offside. The score is still a goalless draw.
In the 32nd minute it was Fred’s turn to have a chance. A shot from outside the penalty box, which was directed by the Brazilian midfielder, went into the net and was denied by Hugo Lloris.
Man Utd almost missed again. A simple counter-attack built by Tottenham. Son got a local pass and ran into the penalty box. As soon as Son hits, Aaron Wan Bissaka blocks. However, if the ball goes into the net, it will not count as a goal because Son is already in an offside position.
The Red Devils took the lead in the 39th minute through Cristiano Ronaldo. The aging star fired a volley from inside the penalty box to welcome the ball that was sent by Bruno Fernandes.
A De Gea pass error marked the second half. Opportunities for Tottenham are endless because Son’s finishing is still wide.
Man Utd hit back with Ronaldo’s chances. The ball nestled in the Tottenham goal, but Ronaldo was first declared offside.
The Lilywhites tried to dismantle the Man Utd defense. There weren’t enough gaps for the hosts to find.
Man Utd actually increased the advantage in the 64th minute. Starting from Fernandes who stole the ball. Ronaldo, who was passed by Fernandes, then directed the ball to Cavani. Without a mistake Cavani netted and put Man Utd 2-0 up.
Man Utd’s game has not been very convincing, but it is better when compared to the performance when they lost five goals without reply against Liverpool. Pressing when the opponent holds the ball and the way players close each other’s gaps make Tottenham uncomfortable.
Four minutes before normal time ended, Marcus Rashford added to Man Utd’s advantage. Getting a through ball from Nemanja Matic, Rashford dribbled and finished with a right-footed shot.
