The team nicknamed The Blues only had a chance to equalize in the 88th minute. However, Thiago Silva’s header still did not meet the target.
It was Brentford who managed to gain the upper hand. Chelsea’s hopes of securing at least one point were dashed after Bryan Mbeumo got his name on the scoreboard in the minute of injury time.
With this result, Chelsea dropped to 11th in the Premier League standings with 12 points. Meanwhile, Brentford managed to climb to 10th place with 13 points.
Regardless of the final result, Pochettino still praised Palmer. According to him, the midfielder has shown quite good performance.
“He showed extraordinary performance, character and personality. You know, it’s always about the team and when you don’t win,” said Pochettino as reported by Football London.
“For sure he is disappointed and we are all disappointed. We are happy with his arrival. He arrived at the last moment of the transfer window, he played as if he had been here for 10 years and showed his character and personality.”
Even though he was only brought in at the start of this season, Palmer immediately adapted to Chelsea’s game scheme. Pochettino was not surprised by that.
“We always expect it. You create expectations when recruiting players, but of course, I can’t say I expected that,” he continued.
“If I told you, I wish I was lying. You always feel the player when you have the player. From the first day when he started training, you started to see his talent but the team needs time to get better.”
