Chelsea achieved negative results when facing Newcastle United in the 2023-2024 Premier League. Visiting the Sport Direct Arena, Newcastle upon Tyne, Saturday (25/11/2023), the Blues were humiliated 1-4 by the home team.
The Magpies’ four goals – Newcastle’s nickname – were scored by Alexander Isak (13′), Jamaal Lascelles (60′), Joelinton (61′) and Anthony Gordon (83′). Meanwhile, Chelsea equalized through Raheem Sterling (23′).
Chelsea appeared sluggish in this match. The match had only been going on for 13 minutes, Newcastle had already broken the deadlock through Alexander Isak’s shot which took advantage of Lewis Miley’s through ball.
Entering the 23rd minute, Chelsea managed to equalize through Raheem Sterling’s brilliant free kick. Two minutes later Raheem Sterling was again the scourge of Newcastle United’s defense, but was thwarted by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Chelsea had another chance to reverse the position in the 31st minute through Enzo Fernandez and Benoit Badiashile’s effort in the 32nd minute. However, both of these opportunities were anticipated by Nick Pope, who appeared impressive in this match.
The match continued to be exciting in the second half. Why not, surprisingly, Chelsea conceded two quick goals from Jamaal Lascelles in the 60th minute and Joelinton a minute later. After trailing by two goals, Chelsea’s performance became increasingly sluggish.
Practically, the retainer of the Blues – Chelsea’s nickname – did not create any opportunities at all. Entering the 73rd minute, another bitter pill had to be swallowed by the West London camp. Their wing-back, Reece James, had to shower early due to receiving a second yellow card.
Three minutes later, Chelsea’s defense became a target for Newcastle when Fabian Schar almost got his name on the scoreboard in the 76th minute. Luckily, this time it was thwarted by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Entering the 83rd minute, Chelsea conceded again through Anthony Gordon’s goal, again through a breakthrough bait scheme.
This embarrassing result means that Chelsea is still stuck in 10th place in the 2023-2024 Premier League standings with a collection of 16 points from 13 matches. Meanwhile, Newcastle has an increasing chance of breaking into the top flight, where they are currently in sixth place with a collection of 23 points from 13 matches.
