The competition for the Premier League top scorer title is getting heated after the completion of the 12th week of the 2020-2021 Premier League season. Liverpool’s mainstay winger, Mohamed Salah, and Leicester City bomber, Jamie Vardy, enlivened the competition for the Premier League’s top scorer list with one goal contribution in the last match.
Mohamed Salah scored one of these goals in the match against Fulham on 13th December 2020. The one-goal contribution from the Egyptian winger saved Liverpool from defeat. He made the score 1-1 during normal time in the Fulham vs Liverpool match with 11 minutes remaining. Moreover, Salah is the fastest player to score 100 goals for Liverpool while playing purely in England’s top flight.
Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy scored a goal when his team hosted Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium. Vardy performed brilliantly in the match which ended 3-0 for the victory of Leicester City. Besides scoring one goal, he contributed two assists. In total, Vardy has scored almost 100 goals within 5 years for Leicester in the Premier League.
With one additional goal, Salah and Vardy are now level with Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min. They both collected 10 goals until week 12 of the Premier League season 2020-2021. Salah, Vardy and Son are only one goal behind the top scorer in the Premier League, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton). The 23 year old player who joined Everton since 2016 has collected 35 goals for the club in the English Premier League.
When Salah and Vardy enlivened the competition for the top scorers list by matching Son’s achievement and sticking closely to Calvert-Lewin, Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, did not want to lose. Kane also just added to his goal record when Tottenham visited the Crystal Palace headquarters. He scored one goal from distance in the 1-1 draw.
Currently, Kane has scored nine goals and continues to overshadow Calvert-Lewin, Salah, Vardy and team-mate Son. Here are the top 10 residents of the Premier League top scorer list, until 14th December 2020 morning:
