Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson scored twice as his side cruised to a 4-1 win over second-bottom Everton on Friday at Goodison Park Stadium.
Joelinton and Jacob Murphy also scored in this game, while Dwight McNeil scored a consolation goal for the home side.
Newcastle are in third place with 62 points from 32 games and are on course for a first Champions League place since 2002.
Everton are second bottom, two points from safety and will meet fellow relegation-fighting rivals Leicester City on the 23rd day of May.
“The first half wasn’t perfect but the second half was very good, we scored some very good goals,” Newcastle manager Eddie Howe told the BBC. “We really put our feet on the pitch and showed what we are capable of.
“The final table will tell us where we are and what we have in store for next season, but for now we are just focused on the next game [home to Southampton on Sunday]. We have got back to form in a very good way, ” he continued.
Callum Wilson scored from six yards after Everton keeper Jordan Pickford could only parry Joelinton’s shot and the ball fell to Wilson.
The 1-0 score lasted until the first half was over.
In the second half, Newcastle took control and added to the lead in the 72nd minute through Joelinton’s header.
Three minutes later, Callum Wilson scored his second with a curling shot that kept Pickford from doing much.
McNeil gave the Goodison Park crowd a glimmer of hope when his corner went in without a touch.
A fine individual move and cross from Alexander Isak set up Murphy’s fourth goal for Newcastle.
“We carried on playing and I think in the first half we were as strong as we were,” Everton manager Sean Dyche told BT Sport.
“We lost too easily after the second goal. You can’t play against a good team like Newcastle.”
“We didn’t find any big moments in the final third. It’s a work in progress. We have to park this one quickly and clear our minds going into the next one.”
