PSG announces Neymar will miss both legs of their Champions League against Manchester United

Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar was injured while playing against Strasbourg on Wednesday in the French Cup, rolling his ankle as he fell to the ground following a couple of challenges.

In an official statement, Paris Saint-Germain announced the unavailability of their star for next 10 weeks. If he will not be operated, Neymar will still miss the knockout stage of the Champions League against Manchester United on March 6.

“After detailed analysis by specialists, a consensus was reached of a conservative treatment of Neymar’s injury to the fifth right metatarsal,” PSG said in a statement.

“Informed of this recommendation, Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian international striker agreed with this protocol. As a result, Neymar is expected to return to the field within 10 weeks.

“Paris Saint-Germain sends its strongest support and encouragement to Neymar Jr. to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination that the player has always shown,” the club added.

Neymar’s new injury is a major boost to United, who are unbeaten since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho in last December.

Of course, this is a big blow for the club of the capital. At the approach of European deadlines, PSG have just lost their best player and will necessarily be disabled against a Manchester team that has found colours in recent weeks.

The Brazilian became the world’s most expensive player when he joined PSG from Barcelona for 222 million euros in 2017. He has scored 20 goals in 23 games this season and 48 in 53 overall.

In February, the 26-year-old striker cracked the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, and he underwent surgery back home in Brazil. Although he recovered in time for the World Cup, he was not at his best in Russia.

Indeed, former Barcelona superstar will not be operated on this lesion at the fifth metatarsal right, where he had already been operated last year.

If his recovery goes well, Neymar should be able to play at the Copa America tournament, which opens on June 14 in Brazil.
