Hosts Real Sociedad successfully held Sevilla to a 0-0 draw during the match which was held on Monday. This draw became a pebble that could make Sevilla slip in the hunt for LaLiga champions this season.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have 57 points from 29 matches or nine points behind leaders Real Madrid. Real Sociedad who are in fifth position still have a chance to finish in the top four with 48 points.
Previously, Sevilla was also unlucky when competing in the Europa League. Due to an extra-time goal from West Ham United on Friday, Sevilla were eliminated from the Europa League.
This draw disappointed Sevilla fans.
“We gave everything, but we need more,” Sevilla defender Jules Kunde told reporters.
“I’m very disappointed because we wanted to do better to our fans who deserved better. We kept dropping points.”
The visitors created a number of chances to secure the win, while Sevilla ended the game not having a single shot on target.
Alexander Sorloth gave Real Sociedad the best chance in the first half but his effort was deflected by team-mate Cristian Porto who accidentally stopped the ball into the net.
In the second half, Real Sociedad were even more aggressive. Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic, who replaced the injured Bono in the warm-up, made a superb save with his reflexes from close range.
A few minutes later, David Silva’s shot hit the bar, while Thomas Delaney’s effort deflected the ball from Adnan Januzaj’s shot from the edge of the box. In another LaLiga match, Cadiz moved slightly away from the relegation mark after a 1-0 win over Villarreal thanks to Ruben Sobrino’s only goal in the 90th minute.
Cadiz now has 27 points in 17th place, or exactly one point above Mallorca, who has 26 points in 16th. Alaves and Levante are in the bottom two with 22 and 19 points.
Villarreal is stuck in its ambition to enter the European zone in seventh with 45 points.
