UEFA does not allow the German national team to wear a pink jersey when facing Switzerland on the third matchday of the Group A phase of Euro 2024. This is related to the status of Die Manschaaft who will act as the visiting team.
The Switzerland vs Germany match in the Euro 2024 schedule will take place at the Frankfurt Arena Stadium on Sunday (23/6/2024). However, Germany cannot wear the pink jersey, which is their away costume, when facing Switzerland even they are the visiting team against Switzerland. The Panzer team is prohibited from wearing pink jerseys based on UEFA rules.
In the draw for Group A, Switzerland is the team in the fourth pot of the draw, while Germany is the team in first place. The teams ranked second and third in Group A are Scotland and Hungary. Based on the match schedule, team A1 (Germany) against team A2 (Scotland) and team A3 (Hungary) against A4 (Switzerland) on the first Matchday. This is followed by team A1 (Germany) against A3 (Hungary) and team A2 (Scotland) against A4 (Switzerland) on Matchday two. This means that Germany has acted as the home team twice in the tournament.
On the other hand, Switzerland has never experienced playing as a home team at Euro 2024. Now, in the final week or third matchday, the team that is in fourth place in the match draw, namely Switzerland, has the opportunity to become the home team. Switzerland also has the freedom to determine the color of the jersey it will wear against Germany.
According to Sky Deutschland’s report, Switzerland have chosen their home jersey to be red when playing against Germany. UEFA has forbidden the use of the pink away jersey due to color combinations with the opponents. Thus, Germany, who acts as the visiting team, will wear white uniforms.
Germany wore a pink jersey when they won the match against Hungary with a score of 2-0 on the second matchday of the Euro 2024 group phase. Before that, Germany wore a white jersey when they won 5-1 over Scotland in the opening match of Euro 2024.
DFB (Germany’s National Football Federation) has stated that the jersey broke the record as the best-selling away uniform in history, starting from the date the jersey was released until the start of the 2024 European Cup. In fact, the jersey was labeled controversial because it did not contain the traditional colors of the German national team jersey, where the colors of the away uniform usually contain elements of red, black, or green after the elements of the German flag.
