Red Bull team boss Christian Horner on Friday has hit back to the statements of Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, regarding the title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
“I am disappointed with those statements. We want a fair fight. Every driver wants to win on the track.” Horner said.
“I think there have been enough touches already. In Austin we recently saw a great fight between the two drivers. If that happens again, Formula 1 will be the big winner. Nobody wants the championship to be decided in the gravel.” Horner added.
In September, Hamilton and Verstappen collided during the Italian Grand Prix, it marks the latest controversial incident between the title rivals after their Silverstone clash.
Red Bull and Mercedes have taken differing views of where the blame lies, but Verstappen has been given a three-piece grid penalty for the Russian Grand Prix, with the stewards determining that he was predominantly to blame.
The seven-time world champion Hamilton has insisted many times that he does not want to win that way.
“Evwn if it means I won’t become world champion. At least then I’ll keep my dignity. I want to win the right way.” Hamilton said.
Verstappen who is trying to win his first drivers championship is currently leading Hamilton by 12 points heading into the final five races at Mexican GP this Sunday.
The Dutch driver won at Mexican GP in 2017 and 2018 and could have won in 2019, but lost pole position due to a grid penalty and clashed with both Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas during the race.
“Red Bull seems to be the big favourite this weekend. It can look good on paper, but you have to get the car set up right. My preparation and approach remain the same, as has been the case throughout the year,” Verstappen said.
