Red Bull boss Christian Horner’s questioning of Mercedes is just another chapter in a very intense rivalry in the 2021 Formula 1 Grand Prix.
“I think that’s in the nature of all technical clarifications, they go on and on between all the teams, and those clarifications are usually aimed at determining whether something is, in the eyes of the governing body, acceptable as a solution,” Horner said.
“We’ve had a lot this year with our car and I think it’s not unique to Red Bull, and this topic is certainly not unique to Red Bull.
“Obviously this dialogue between engineers within their forums as well, within the technical working groups, is an ongoing process, so I’m sure that’s not a big surprise.” Horner added.
Mind games are a part of the title race in F1 and it has been a vital component in all the biggest rivalries in F1 history.
Mercede’s Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen are the two title protagonist this year and many feel that the gloves are finally coming off after Hamilton made some comments about Verstappen.
This particular war of words was set in motion when Hamilton was asked about McLaren boss Zak Brown’s suggestion that Hamilton and Max might not always give each other space when racing wheel to wheel.
“I think I’ve done well to avoid all the incidents so far, but we’ve got 19 more races to go and we could connect, hopefully not. I think the good thing is that I think there is a nice balance and amount of respect wheel.” Hamilton said.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff on the other hand, suggested that Red Bull have made a significant leap forward with their new power unit.
