Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo comments on Concorde Agreements and IndyCar

Daniel Ricciardo has committed to Renault starting next year and will surely be the spearhead of the tricolor team also in 2021, when the next Concorde Agreements come into force. For the occasion, the sporting regulations should be greatly redesigned to improve the show on the track.

Compared to the IndyCar or even NASCAR, F1 racing is sometimes too predictable. Leader changes are much less common.

“It was always more or less the case, but that’s part of the problem, yes. Even we pilots tend to be a little bored. This season, there were races where I was faster than the guy ahead but, because of the aerodynamics and the support, I could not exceed it, unless he made a mistake.” Ricciardo said.

“Certainly, it’s a little frustrating. They are trying to figure out how to make it all better. They change the front wing in 2019 to allow us to follow more. I would love to go over.” Ricciardo added.

“The Circuit of the Americas in Austin is my favorite track to overtake. That’s where I realised my best overtaking – with Monza.

“Turn 1 is so wide in Austin. The ideal path is to stay outside and then back inside. There is so much space inside, it allows you to dive late inside. It’s not so common on other circuits, so you can surprise a lot of guys.” Ricciardo added.

The topic of F1 drivers attempting oval racing has been a popular one since Fernando Alonso’s attempt to win the most famous oval race of all, the Indy 500, in 2017. Ricciardo was asked if he would ever considering attempting the even himself.

“Yes and no, the thought of it sounds good. Ovals creep me out a little bit. I won’t lie. It would be cool. I don’t know. I would at least like to have a go, like maybe just a test.” Ricciardo said.

“Let’s see how things go but yeah, it was cool watching Fernando do it, don’t get me wrong and part of me was like trying to picture myself being and doing it but yeah, maybe one day.

“At the moment I don’t say it’s something I’m looking to do in the near future. I don’t know. Probably the older I get, the more scared I’ll become, so if it doesn’t happen now maybe it won’t ever happen. I don’t know.” he added.
