Max Verstappen, Red Bull lead driver, made his way to the top at German Grand Prix.
But he dismissed the notions that his continuous second victory this season might open up ways to championship title battle.
The Red Bull driver stands behind Mercedes dominance at drivers chart. He stands behind 22 point from second position. Valterri Bottas stands second with 184 points as he failed to score any at German GP.
Lewis Hamilton, who tops the this years season chart, was able to finish 11th after he ran into problems due to rain and spinning.
Hamilton finished 11th in Germna Grand Prix, but post race penalties for Alfa Romeo saved him from no-point ending. He was able to finish with 2 points.
He leads with 225 points on the standings with 63 and 84 points ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel respectively.
But Verstappen dismissed his chances to challenge Hamilton for title. He believes that Mercedes still dominates the F1 track with his capacity to lead the game in normal conditions.
“They [Mercedes] are so miles ahead in the championship,” he said.
“It [the 63-point deficit] is more than two victories, and they are still the dominant team, I think.
“We managed to do a good job but we still have to work very hard to close that gap and actually really fight for the victory every single race, so there’s still a lot of work to do.”
Verstappend qualified second on the grid. He was able to out-paced Bottas. He was only behind 0.364 seconds from the top position.
Both team mates Verstappen and Pierre Gasly was hit by an engine problem which lead to a poor start.
Verstappen dropped two position on the opening lap but managed to maintain third position for most of the race. And he kept on tagging Bottas for second position.
“We had to stay very focused,” he added.
“We couldn’t afford too many mistakes.
“I mean now, after the race, I can say I did that 360 for the crowd, but at the time it was a bit tricky out there with the medium tyre, very low grip.
“I think the information between myself and the team was crucial. I think we made the right calls and that gave us the victory also.”
