Indonesian female volleyball player, Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi, set two great records when the Red Sparks beat AI Peppers in the South Korean Volleyball League at Chungmu Gymnasium, Daejeon, Sunday (26/1).
Megawati led Red Sparks to their 13th consecutive win. Having trailed 10-25 in the first set, the Red Sparks then turned things around 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 to win 3-1.
During the time out, Ko Hee Jin also encouraged Megawati and teammates not to continue their disappointing performance.
Apart from encouraging the players, Hee Jin also decided to pull out the core players to maintain stamina. This strategy proved effective.
The 25-year-old player scored 21 points as the Red Sparks beat AI Peppers. Apart from that, via social media accounts, Red Sparks said that Megawati had set two extraordinary records.
First, Megawati became the 80th player in the history of the South Korean Volleyball League who was able to create 50 ace serves.
Second, Megawati has also penetrated 100 blocks in the Korean Volleyball League. The Indonesian Women’s National Volleyball Team player is the 75th player to be able to do this in history.
Furthermore, Megawati has collected 559 points from 22 matches this season. The player who was born in Jember, East Java, is in third place in the temporary top scorer standings.
Apart from that, Megawati had a successful attack of up to 47.87 points, ranking first in the statistical record.
“Of course we are very happy with this team’s work. Even though we lost at the start of the set because we lost our rhythm, in the second set we were able to survive. That’s because the players’ mentality is good,” said Megawati.
The Red Sparks will next face the Pink Spiders, Thursday (30/1), in the final match of the fourth round of the South Korean Volleyball League.
