Red Sparks coach Ko Hee Jin spoke after his team won 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) over IBK Altos in the third match of the fifth round of the Korean Volleyball League at Chungmu Gymnasium, Wednesday (12/2).
The victory over IBK Altos brought Red Sparks to second place in the Korean Volleyball League standings, displacing Hyundai Hillstate.
Red Sparks has the same points as Hillstate, 53 points. However, Yeum Hye Seon and friends are superior in head to head wins.
Ko Hee Jin was delighted to see the Red Sparks return to winning ways after two consecutive losses to the Pink Spiders.
“I’m happy that the players played well. This is the first time we’ve done that in the second round of the league. So I’m very happy and want to continue this performance in every match,” said Ko Hee Jin.
The South Korean coach revealed one of the factors that helped the third-placed team in the Korean Volleyball League last season rise from the slump.
“We showed a video that would give the players strength, but we told them that there are days in life when things don’t go well. (Even if there are days when things don’t go well) what can we do? We have to do it again,” Ko Hee Jin added.
Red Sparks chose to focus on securing second place in the 2024/2025 Korean Volleyball League regular standings rather than chasing the regular season championship.
According to Ko Hee Jin, Red Sparks will try to focus on second place because they have the advantage of playing two home games in the first three matches.
“I think the advantage of playing at home is quite big. Red Sparks fans often come and cheer us on, so the players feel comfortable at home,” said Ko Hee Jin.
