Remy Gardner Admits He Has Best Shape at Dutch WSBK

Remy Gardner admitted that he has his best race weekend in the World Superbike championship so far at the TT Circuit Assen.

The Australian has found his racing rhythm again in the WorldSBK category after a difficult season in the MotoGP primer class.

“In the long break between Indonesia and Assen I first sat on the toilet for two weeks, three days after the race in Indonesia I was even in hospital again.” Remy said.

“I couldn’t leave the house and lost about 6 to 7 kilos in weight, I also lost a lot of my muscle mass because I couldn’t train.

“I lived on rice and chicken for a few weeks. Then I broke my index finger during an enduro ride, just before the test in Barcelona.

“During the test I still had the stitches in my finger, then I went to Morocco with my girlfriend to drive a rally there with my car, so I had a great time.” Remy added.

It was finally time to race again last weekend after the private test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Remy started the weekend well with a fifth fastest time on Friday before qualifying eleventh on Saturday morning and finishing eighth in Race 1.

With a 12th-place finish in the Superpole Race on Sunday, things didn’t get off to a great start. However, Remy improved on that performance by finishing sixth in Race 2 in the afternoon.

“This weekend was a bit hit and miss for me. On Friday we started strong and the pace was already good, unfortunately I couldn’t get the most out of the qualifying tires on Saturday.” Remy said.

“When I look at the course of this weekend, qualifying largely determines the rest of the weekend. I also think the asphalt changed a bit with the rain from Friday to Saturday, and I also had problems with the new SCX rear tyre.” he added.

Remy’s career has dropped from favour during the last three seasons. He won the Moto2 world title at the end of 2021 by keeping ahead of Red Bull KTM Ajo teammate Raul Fernandez in the title race.
