Results of the Indonesia Open 2019 Big 16, 8 Indonesian Representatives were eliminated

Eight representatives of Indonesia lost in the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2019 which was held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (07/18/2019).

One of the Indonesian players who were eliminated, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, had to defeat Thailand’s representative, Ratchanok Intanon. Gregoria lost 21-13, 19-21 and 15-21. Gregoria’s defeat made Indonesia run out of representatives in the women’s singles number.

Thai women’s singles champion, Ratchanok Intanon, acknowledged being overwhelmed by Indonesia’s representative, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. “I am not in good form today. She (Gregoria) put a lot of pressure at the start,” Ratchanok said. According to Ratchanok, Gregoria is always good at home. These results add to the dominance of Ratchanok over the best Indonesian women’s singles. Now, their meeting score is 5-0 for Ratchanok, who is currently ranked seventh in the world.

As in the women’s singles, Indonesia also has no representatives in the women’s doubles. Appearing on Thursday night, Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu failed to save the face of Indonesia after losing to South Korean representative Kim So Yeong / Kong Hee Yong. Greysia / Apriyani lost with a score of 20-22, 21-18 and 13-21.

Indonesian men’s singles player, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is one of the leading players eliminated in the 2019 Indonesia Open. Anthony Ginting lost to Thai men’s singles, Kantaphon Wangcharoen. Anthony Ginting gave up after going through three game battles with a score of 20-22, 21-11, and 19-21 in 84 minutes.

The 2019 Indonesia Open event will enter the quarter-finals on Friday (7/19/2019). Only five Indonesian representatives will compete, 1 in the men’s singles, 1 in the mixed doubles, and 3 in the men’s doubles.
