Sebastian Vettel has insisted that he would leave Ferrari after the 2020 season. The German driver joined the team in 2015 as a four-time champion but has been unable to bring his winning touch to Ferrari so far. Meanwhile Racing Point has declared its clear interest in signing up Vettel for 2021, according to reports.
Speaking at a media, Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo believes it is difficult for Vettel to move to the middle team like Racing Point in the future.
“For Seb, in his situation he has had pretty much his whole career in the sport running at the front. I would say that probably every year he has contested in F1 he has been on the podium, if not won.” Ricciardo said.
“If it is the case that he goes into a midfield team, it is foreign territory for him. It requires a bit more of an open mind, and some patience, but that is up to him and where he sees the next chapter of his career.” Ricciardo added.
“If he still has the will and drive to compete at the top level, then I hundred percent think he should continue in the sport. But if it is in the midfield it is normally a longer play. You have to show commitment not just for another 12 months but two or three years.” Ricciardo said.
“But that is something only he could answer. As a previous teammate, I like Seb, I certainly respect him in the sport. That is why if he wishes to continue I hope he finds a place where he is happy.” he added.
Vettel wouldn’t be back first about being a clear number one but he would not want to be a clear number two in Ferrari. However, he had lost a bit of faith and trust in the team that they really could turn this round.
“It’s exciting right now, there are always new opportunities. I really don’t know what it will be in the end but if I stay, I want to win.” Vettel said.
“And we all know what car you have to sit in at the moment for that. Since that is probably not an option, I have to find something similar.” Vettel added.
