Daniel Ricciardo, Renault Formula 1 team lead driver, expects the first grand prix of the season to be chaotic.
He has isolated himself in Perth for quarantine against Covid-19. Australian Grand Prix was also called off when a team member of McLaren F1 was found positive of Corona.
The Australian has not been able to run his Renault since his testing in February at Barcelona.
Formula 1 is targeting two races currently starting with Austria if pandemic situation relaxes the scenario.
BBC reported the Honey Badger on Saturday where he expressed his expectations for first grand prix. He was excited and expects “some form of chaos, hopefully in a controlled manner”.
He reasoned for it because all the drivers have been out of the real racing for sometime now. They will be expecting excitement and reward through racing when season starts.
“I am not really referencing cars everywhere. But there is going to be so much rust, a combination of emotion, excitement, eagerness,” the 30-year-old said.
“Everyone is going to be ready to go. You are going to get some guys who perform on that level of adrenaline and others who might not. So you’re going to get some bold overtakes, some miscalculated ones. You’re going to see a bit of everything.”
Christian Horner, Red Bull Boss, with his driver Max Verstappen have secured victories at their home ground in last two seasons. He also agreed with his ex-driver that resumption of season could stir things up.
“This is probably the longest time all the drivers have been out of a seat,” he spoke to Guardian.
“That could be healthy in a way. If we begin again in July, they will all be rusty as hell and there will be some incidents.”
Ricciardo had seven opportunities to drink from shoe with Red Bull. He later switched to Renualt with 2 year contract expiring at the end of this year.
He is enjoying his time at his family farm with no stress.
“The icing on the cake on that is we haven’t been jumping time zones, or locked in pressurised cabins three days a week up in the air, and the benefit is going to be really nice,” he added.
“Because it is so unique it was important to maximise this. And who knows? It might give me a bit more longevity in my career.”
