Richard Jefferson has believed that LeBron James’ decision to sign that extension with the Los Angeles Lakers was the biggest mistake of his career.
LeBron James took a decisive step in his career by signing an extension with the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason. After all, close to 38 years old, every decision can define what will be the end of your career. For one of his former co-stars, therefore, he made a decisive mistake.
“I haven’t spoken to him, but I feel like him signing that extension was the biggest mistake he’s made in his career. And I stand by that,” Jefferson said.
“You come to Los Angeles, you win a championship, but signing this extension last summer, it was just so confusing to me. I think he did it because he was committed to the organisation.” Jefferson added.
In fact, from a competitive standpoint, the Lakers don’t seem like such an exciting prospect. The team aspired to be a title contender, but today has the fourth-worst record of the season.
There were ten defeats in 13 matches and, in addition, the second least efficient attack in the league. For Jefferson, Team Angelina is ignoring a huge vote of confidence given by LeBron.
“I think he wanted to show his commitment to the franchise, above all.” Jefferson said.
“They could then use the two draft picks they still have to bring in reinforcements. This team needed signings as we have already seen their results from the last two seasons. But they did nothing and decided not to add any important pieces.” he added.
For the Lakers, the LeBron extension was a “win” they were never sure they would get. The recent bad results, after all, indicated that the impasse could evolve into a “soap opera”.
Jefferson and LeBron are known as close friends, which started with their championship run in Cleveland.
