Rinky Hijikata collected his sixth win of the 2024 season when he defeated sixth seed Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 7-6 at the Los Cabos Open.

Aiming for his third quarter-final this season (after Brisbane and Delray Beach), the Australian tennis player is already halfway to equaling the best number of wins in his career after bagging 11 wins last season.

Throughout the first round of the Los Cabos Open, the statistics on the success of each player’s serve were not too different. The world number 79 tennis player won 59 percent of points from his first serve and 58 percent of points from his second serve, while Serbian tennis player Kecmanovic won 56 percent of points from his first serve and 41 percent of points from his second serve.

However, the 22 year old tennis player, Rinky Hijikata was able to take advantage of six of the 13 break point opportunities he created, while the world number 54, Kecmanovic was able to convert four of the six break point opportunities he created.

Standing between Hijikata and a place in the quarter-finals of the Los Cabos Open is American Aleksandar Kovacevic.

Hijikata’s compatriot and eighth seed, Jordan Thompson, also entered the second round of the Los Cabos Open after he beat the host player, Ernesto Escobedo, 6-4, 6-3, including saving four of the five break point opportunities he faced.

Awaiting Thompson in the second round was the 22 year old tennis player from the US, Emilio Nava who eliminated the Argentinian, Diego Schwrtzman with 6-4, 6-3.

Another win would give Thompson his tenth win of the season.

Meanwhile, American Marcos Giron has now won eight of his last ten matches after beating Japanese Taro Daniel in their first meeting 6-4, 7-5 and he booked his second round match at the Los Cabos Open against the top seed. fourth, Casper Ruud.

Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges also continued his breakthrough in the 2024 season by claiming a 7-6, 6-2 victory over German tennis player Dominik Koepfer. The tennis player who managed to advance to the fourth round of the Australian Open this season will next face the seventh seed, Max Purcell.
