Riyad Mahrez says Erling Haaland is on fire but there are many Manchester City players who can make a difference apart from the Norwegian striker.
The Citizens – the nickname of Manchester City – successfully continued their glory in the 2022-2023 Premier League, by beating Southampton 4-0, Saturday 8 October 2022.
Manchester City managed to dominate the match from start to finish. Joao Cancelo opened the scoring for the hosts in the 20th minute of this match.
Phil Foden then doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 32nd minute. The gap in the lead was even greater in the second half, through Riyad Mahrez (49) and Erling Haaland (65).
With that score, Haaland scored his 20th goal of the season in all competitions. Mahrez also said that Haaland was in the best condition, so the Manchester City players also helped.
“Haaland is part of the team and is our striker. Just like any other striker, if you can give the ball away it will be perfect, because he is on fire,” Mahrez said.
However, Mahrez said that Manchester City’s players were not just Haaland. The most important thing is to keep the momentum going and keep winning.
“If you can’t give him the ball, there are a lot of players and everyone can make a difference. We have to keep going with this momentum. We had a lot of chances but couldn’t take them,” he said.
“It was a tough game, but it looked easy by scoring the early goals and controlling the game. We didn’t concede and the game was controlled,” Mahrez said.
