Robert Kubica’s prospects of landing at a Williams this season are jumping up. He says he is up for a complete Formula 1 race
Kubica was left out of Formula 1 racing after serious injuries during a deadly clash in a rally car race in 2011. Last time he appeared for a Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
The 33-year-old Polish driver had return to F1 with Williams as a reserve driver. He tried to clinch a seat to the grid but failed to impress the team against his competitor.
In a complex set of events, Lance Stroll might leave Williams making space for Kubica to be promoted to grid. Stroll’s father has invested in Racing Point Force India venture, which is expected to hire him for the grid.
Speaking to a reporter from Autosport, Kubica said that he was ready for F1 tracks.
“I feel ready because otherwise I would not sign a contract with Williams for this year,” he said.
“So it’s on my desk that, ‘You have to keep being ready and in case something happens, you have to step up’.
“Of course, it is not easy when you have to drive against the top drivers in the middle of the season.
“Although I have some opportunities to drive the car, you still lack experience, but you have to do it.
“I also think when Williams approached me for this role, they also have no doubts that I can do it.
“But what’s happening currently and a lot of speculation is not affecting myself.
“I’m doing my job and then what the future will bring, we will see.”
Kubica added that he doesn’t take sentimental decisions rather he stand by reason.
He said, “Sometimes you have to be in the right place in the right moment with a bit of luck and have people who are believing in you.”
Kubica’s role as reserve driver has helped him emerge on the F1 tracks. He returned on track at practice session of Spain GP and Austria GP.
“In the end, when I said that I could drive, I meant all season,” said Kubica.
“I know I went through different tests. First with Renault and then with Williams. I’m confident that I could do it.”
