Roger Federer has been out of tennis in the past season. He has not competed since losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open in the 2020 season.

After that, the former world number 1 had to undergo knee surgery twice, delaying his return to action in tennis. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic adds to fear and disrupts normal life.

While the Swiss national was absent from the world of tennis, his compatriots added to his collection of Grand Slam titles. World number 1 Djokovic won the Australian Open last season (beating Dominic Thiem) and now has 17 Grand Slam titles.

Meanwhile, world number 2 Rafael Nadal won the French Open title for the 13th time (beating Djokovic), bringing Nadal’s Grand Slam collection equal to the record set by the Swiss national.

In addition, world number 3 Thiem broke the deadlock for the next generation of tennis and won her first career Grand Slam title at last season’s US Open (beating Alexander Zverev).

Recently, the world number 5 shot for a commercial with Mercedes Benz. On that occasion, he expressed the importance of having a team. He made it clear that all the achievements he had achieved could not be addressed to himself but the entire team and support staff who had accompanied him.

“People think that we athletes or famous figures get all the achievements by ourselves, but we need a coach, support, it’s always a team effort. Maybe when on the field, it looks like I’m doing it alone,” explained 39-year-old tennis player Roger Federer.

Most of the time, tennis players reward their support team after winning a title. They appreciate the importance of having a support team in their careers.

Entering the new season, tennis player who has bagged 20 Grand Slam titles, Federer decided to skip the Australian Open. Living for five weeks away from family and children is not something that makes him comfortable competing in this phase of his life.

The Australian Open itself will be held for two weeks, but with the protocol applied during the COVID-19 pandemic, tennis players who will compete must undergo a two-week quarantine obligation before participating in the tournament.
