Lukaku has been able to show his best ability in the last few seasons. The 28-year-old scored 24 goals, losing five to Ronaldo in Serie A last season. However, the Belgian player was able to bring Inter Milan to the Scudetto.
On the other hand, Ronaldo is still considered the most reliable striker in scoring goals. Even the player who has just returned to Manchester United has just broken the record for most international goals this week.
With 111 goals that he has scored with the Portugal national team, Ronaldo is able to beat the record of former Iran national team player, Ali Daei, who previously held the record with a total of 109 goals.
Lukaku also asked not to compare himself to Ronaldo. According to him, Ronaldo is one of the best footballers in history who he will not be able to beat.
“Never compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo, never. Cristiano Ronaldo, for me, is in the top three of the best players in the history of football,” said Lukaku as quoted by Goal International, Sunday (5/9/2021).
“I wouldn’t rank him from first to third, but he is there. What he has achieved in football today for players of my generation is something extraordinary.”
Lukaku also feels grateful to be able to compete with Ronaldo again this season. However, comparing himself to the former Juventus player is said to be of no use at all.
“I was lucky enough to play against him in Italy and now that he’s back in the Premier League, it’s all good for English football. The rest, comparing statistics and all that, is pointless.”
