Ronald Koeman officially coached Barcelona for the next two seasons from 2020/2021. Koeman is a Blaugrana legend who coaches Barcelona.
During his time as a player, Koeman’s most successful career was with Barcelona (1989-1995). With the Catalan club, won 10 trophies.
Four Spanish League trophies, one Copa del rey, three Spanish Super Cups, one Champions League and one European Super Cup are the trophies that Koeman won with Barcelona.
Koeman’s success has made him one of the legends of Barcelona. Koeman’s career as a player ended at Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1997. The man who was born in Zaandam then started his coaching career starting in July 1998 by becoming Louis van Gaal’s assistant.
Koeman then tried his luck by becoming head coach in January 2000, while in charge of Vitesse Arnhem.
Koeman’s performance with Vitesse took him to Ajax Amsterdam in 2001-2005. At the club nicknamed De Godenzonen, Koeman presented two Dutch League titles and two other domestic trophies.
Koeman then moved to the Portuguese League (2005-2006), coached Benfica, and successfully won the 2005 Portuguese Super Cup trophy.
Only one season at Benfica, Koeman returned to the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven. Koeman’s success continued with the Eredivisie 2006/2007 title.
The 57-year-old coach is a figure who moves frequently in the near future. Only a season and a half at PSV, Koeman then accepted an offer from Valencia. Copa del Rey 2007/2008.
Not long in Valencia, Koeman returned to his hometown by training AZ Alkmaar. The 2009 Johan Cruyff Shield trophy was presented by Koeman for Alkmaar.
Going back and forth to handle Dutch clubs, Koeman finally ventured to England by coaching Southampton and Everton from 2014 to 2017.
However, unlike in the Netherlands, Koeman failed to present the trophy for Southampton and Everton.
After being kicked out by Everton, Koeman coached the Dutch national team. His best score led De Oranje to become runner-up for the Nations League after losing 0-1 to Portugal.
The name Koeman has been targeted by Barcelona since the last season. However, Koeman’s contract with the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) until the 2020 European Cup after tackling his steps to the Blaugrana.
It’s just that, the corona virus pandemic that postponed the 2020 European Cup made Koeman unable to accept Barcelona’s offer. He coached the Blaugrana for the next two seasons.
