Cristiano Ronaldo got an ugly knock on his nose that left him bleeding profusely in the first half of Portugal’s Nations League match on Saturday night.
The Manchester United forward started but did not score when Portugal crushed the Czech Republic 4-0 in Group 2 of Group A of the Nations League.
After William Carvalho’s pass caused the ball to fall into the penalty area in the 13th minute, Ronaldo jumped to concede with Tomas Vaclik. He was hit in the face by the host’s goalkeeper, and he went bleeding from the side of his nose.
Portugal’s medical team spent time plastering the cut on Ronaldo’s nose before putting him through a concussion test. They then led the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker to the side of the pitch to clear up the remaining blood, with players unable to play in blood-stained kit.
Manchester United teammates Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes both scored first-half goals to put Portugal into a comfortable lead at the break.
Portugal made it 3-0 at the start of the second half. Dalot continued to shine with a cross in front of the penalty area and then cut the dangerous left leg.
In the opposite direction, the Czech Republic struggled to create mutations from crosses. The rare situation they sent the ball toSchick’s head, the striker headed over the bar.
Portugal coach Fernando Santos brought Diogo Jota on in the 67th minute. When appearing at the far post to catch Ronaldo’s head pass, the Liverpool striker proven the level of “shining” the ball in a corner. Jota easily headed the net Vaclik despite not being in a position right in front of the goal.
The win helped Portugal secure the top of Group 2, the A Nations League group with 10 points after five matches. Ronaldo and his teammates only need to draw Spain at home on September 27 to reach the final round as the top of the group.
