As status as a star player does not necessarily make Cristiano Ronaldo proud. He even revealed that he must first have permission at his new club, Juventus, to keep wearing his favorite jersey number 7.
Yes, Ronaldo said asking permission first with the number 7 owner in Juve, Juan Cuadrado to wear the number.
Previously, many thought that Cuadrado has first offered Ronaldo to wear the jersey number while the Colombian would change the number. But lately, Ronaldo admitted that he had first asking permissions with Cuadrado.
“This is my favorite number and I spoke with the club from the start about this. And, of course I spoke with Cuadrado because he was [previously] wearing number 7,” explained Ronaldo as quoted by Sport Bible.
Ronaldo later revealed that Cuadrado’s response was so positive that he felt grateful for his new colleague.
“He said, ‘it doesn’t matter and it will be an honor to give you number 7.” I was so positively surprised because the club helped me and of course Cuadrado responsed well.”
Furthermore, Ronaldo said the number 7’s back he wore was a lucky number for him throughout his career. The player who got the nickname CR7 also revealed the initial story he was given the number when he first joined Manchester United in 2003.
“Starting my career in Manchester, yes. I remember when I first signed in Manchester and joined the club, I asked for number 28 because I used to use that number at Sporting,” Ronaldo said.
He said, the manager at the time Sir Alex Ferguson actually insisted that Ronaldo use the number 7 legacy of David Beckham.
“Then the coach told me: ‘No, you will not use 28, you will wear number 7.’ I was a little scared because you knew it was the number Beckham had used.”
“However, I said okay, I accepted the challenge and from that moment on I felt it was my lucky number. I won many things with that number because it was my lucky number,” CR7 said.
