Ross Brawn, Formula 1 Technical Chief, gunned down Sebastian Vettel with his words over his failure to perform which would have enabled him to win this year’s title.
Lewis Hamilton and Vettel challenged each other with no one establishing a quantifiable lead over the other, even though Ferrari was quickest on the grid.
However, the British driver made his way to 70 points lead over the German with six victories in last seven races.
Hamilton had needed eight points lead over his contender at United Stated Grand Prix at Austin, to win the title. But safe play of Hamilton and great performance of Kimi Raikkonen has made him to wait for another race to win it.
At the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix, Hamilton needs to gain five points lead over his title contender to take the crown for a consecutive year.
Moreover, Brawn doesn’t consider the failures of German to be a coincidence which he has made over the time.
“On Friday there was a small one (mistake), when he failed to slow sufficiently for red flags, and he paid the price with a three-place penalty,” said Brawn.
“Then, in the race, he yet again collided with a Red Bull, this time Ricciardo’s, and once again Vettel came off worst.
“It was another lost opportunity to close the gap in the title fight, especially when we saw what Raikkonen did with the same car.
“I certainly don’t want to put Vettel in the dock, but these incidents can no longer be seen as coincidence.
“Rather they would seem to indicate that Sebastian is a bit out of sorts at the moment.”
Vettel has been under humongous pressure for his failure to perform and win the title for Ferrari. He failed to fetch a single title in the past four years. The criticism got worst for the German that Hamilton had to rescue him from it.
But Brawn is still hopeful that Vettel,, if given time, will win his his fifth Drivers’ Championship.
“Now, any hope of bringing the drivers’ title back to Maranello is dwindling and the time has come to do the maths,” Brawn added.
“Their most important task is to work out how to help Vettel make the most of his massive talent.”
