Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is still disappointed with Marcus Rashford to the point of dropping the English striker from the squad when they beat Fulham at Craven Cottage, London, Sunday (26/1/2025).
Rashford has not played since the Red Devils beat Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12. Since then, Rashford’s only time in the Man United squad was when they were defeated by Newcastle on December 30.
Amorim said the main reason Rashford was not in the Manchester United squad against Fulham was that the 27-year-old striker did not show seriousness during training.
“It’s the same, the reason is always the same. The reason is training, the way I see what players should do in training, in life, every day, every detail.”
“So if things don’t change, I won’t change. The situation is the same for every player. If you do your best, if you do the right thing, we can use every player,” said Amorim as quoted by MEN.
Annoyed to see Rashford, Amorim admitted that he preferred to play Man United’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, rather than Rashford. In fact, Amorim admitted that Man United needed the speed that Rashford had on the field.
“You can see it today on the bench, we lost a little bit of speed to change the game, move some players. However, I prefer it that way,” said Amorim.
“I would put Vital in before putting in a player who doesn’t give his best every day. So I won’t change in that regard,” added Amorim.
Rashford is rumored to be leaving Man United in the middle of this season on loan. A number of clubs that are claimed to want Rashford are Barcelona, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund.
The young Portuguese coach even admitted that his two months in charge at Manchester United had made him look 10 years older.
