Andrey Rublev was criticised so much that he had to speak up after admitting to being infected with COVID-19 but still “stretching” to attend the Australian Open 2022.
The Russian tennis icon had low levels of the virus in his body, so he was still allowed to enter Australia and isolated for 10 days before joining the competition at the Australian Open.
Rublev has admitted that he never wanted to put the community at risk and what fans were saying went too far.
“It is true that when I flew to Australia, I was still positive, but the level of Covid-19 was very low and no danger. I won’t lie.” Rublev said.
“I was allowed to enter the country. In addition, I have spent more than ten days in isolation. I passed the first test a few days before the official announcement on social media, which I think I should do out of respect for the audience and fans. I think they should know why I’m not in the ATP Cup.
“I immediately self-quarantine. The rules are simple, it’s a ten-day quarantine. I haven’t left the house for a while. I started training a few days before my flight to Australia.
“My team and I flew to Melbourne, observed all the procedures. We followed the quarantine and vaccination regulations. We immediately passed the test. The result was negative. So, I can move freely.” Rublev added.
Rublev on the other hand, still cannot avoid criticism because in the context that Novak Djokovic is not infected, but still cannot enter Australia due to not being vaccinated, what Rublev is treated is “unfair” to the Serbian tennis player.
“By the way, before coming to Australia, all my tests were negative. And before the flight to Melbourne, the tests also came back negative. The virus level in my body is about 35. This is not dangerous. dangerous to others and means I’m not a carrier.” Rublev said.
“Even so, I was quarantined for ten days. All this time I was in contact with the doctors, the representatives of the league. I did not break any rules. I would never book. other people’s lives are in jeopardy. I am the one responsible for my actions. I hope I have conveyed my thoughts correctly now.” he added.
