Red Sparks won 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-12) over GS Caltex in the first match of the 2024/2025 Korean Volleyball League at Chungmu Gymnasium, Sunday (10/20/2024).
Silva’s spike that was too wide to the left gave Red Sparks an advantage, the score became 14-8.
Megawati created two consecutive points to lead Red Sparks to an 18-10 lead. A long rally occurred entering a crucial point.
The fierce rally ended with Silva’s spike ending in a block touch after failing to be blocked by a Red Sparks player. GS Caltex narrowed the gap to 12-19.
Red Sparks approached the lead in the first set after leading 23-15 after Megawati’s monster block blocked Stefanie Weiler’s spike. Red Sparks led 25-18 in the first set thanks to Bukilic’s smash that Weiler could not return.
Red Sparks started the second set with a 3-0 lead. GS Caltex tried to get closer, the score became 3-5.
Quick attack from Pyio Seung Ju made Red Sparks maintain the lead to 11-8. The host led 22-16 thanks to Megawati’s spike.
GS Caltex spread threats at critical points by winning five consecutive points to get closer to 22-24 through Silva’s spike. However, Silva’s wrong spike gave Red Sparks a 25-22 lead in the second set.
GS Caltex managed to beat Red Sparks 3-0. However, Red Sparks recovered to win four consecutive points to turn the lead around to 4-3 through Park Eun Jin’s block.
The lead increased Red Sparks’ confidence, who continued to lead throughout the match.
Megawati’s back attack increased Red Sparks’ lead to 13-6 with a back attack. Jung Ho Young’s quick attack increased Red Sparks’ lead to 19-8. Park Eun Jin’s smash as a block touch gave the Red Sparks a 25-12 win in the third set.
Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi became the Red Sparks’ top scorer in this match by scoring 16 points.
