Serena Williams announces pregnancy, clearing up Snapchat confusion

Serena Williams is expecting.

The most dominant women’s tennis player of all time posted a photo of herself on Snapchat Wednesday morning with a caption that read simply “20 weeks.” Williams deleted the post, but her spokeswoman confirmed the pregnancy in a statement hours later.

Williams, 35, is expected to deliver her first child in the fall, according to Kelly Bush Novak, Williams’ publicist.

Williams announced her engagement to Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, in December. No date has yet been announced for their wedding.

The “20 weeks” timeline would mean Williams was pregnant when she won the Australian Open title in January.

That triumph marked her 23rd Grand Slam singles championship, but will it be her last? The pregnancy figures to keep her out of action the rest of this season, and she’ll turn 36 in September.

She recently pulled out of marquee WTA Tour events in Indian Wells and Miami, citing a knee injury.
