While Chelsea and United have found life tough of late, their fellow contender aka “new boy on the block” Pep Guardiola has been enjoying life of late in the Premier league bagging in 18 points of their six matches in the league. Manchester City are now on a six match unbeaten run and the only unbeaten club in the Premier League. The last time a team won six matches in a row, they went onto lift the title – Chelsea.
Guardiola’s latest triumph came in the shape of a win against Swansea. Swansea managed to surprise Chelsea in their home game by coming from behind and taking the lead even, only to be denied two points by Chelsea’s defiance. They proved their worth yet again when they levelled up against City at half time. This was the first time Guardiola’s side was level with the opposition at half time. However thanks to a phenomenal performance yet again from the City spearhead, Sergio Aguero, City managed to pick up all three points and carry on their unbeaten run. Aguero scored twice on his return after a three match ban to put his team 1-3 ahead.
City boss was jubilant and inevitably all admirations for the Argentinian striker.
“We played very good, but we missed a lot of final passes and that happened a lot of times in the first half.
“You have to win the ball, use the ball and use the counter-attack. It is the first time we have been 1-1 at half-time and we spoke of how we had to be like a team and in the second half we played really well.
“Sergio is quality. His first step, second step in the box is so good and that is why he is one of the best strikers in the world but I want to help him improve his game.”
Speaking about Kevin de Bruyne’s injury which he picked up in the closing stages of the game, Guardiola reported that
“I think he is injured, that’s why we have to have a big squad as everyone will help us.
“It’s a pity – he is important for us. How he reacted, it looks like it was a muscular injury, but I’m not a doctor.”
Despite the defeat, Swansea manager Guildolin was proud of his players and the effort that they put into the game.
“In front of us we have a good future. I know my job and after four, five or six defeats it not easy but I am confident as we have played a good game today.”
Pep has now levelled the record of Carlo Ancelotti of winning the first six game of the season, a record set back in 2009-10. Not only do these streak of victories come in the Premier League, City have gone 11 matches unbeaten in all competitions. Pep has acclimatized to the new conditions pretty well, something that cannot be said about his fellow managers at Chelsea or United.
