The coach of the Indonesian U23 national team, Shin Tae-yong, admitted that he was happy with the success of the Garuda Muda squad. The team was able to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2024 U23 Asian Cup. The Indonesian U23 national team came out as runners-up in Group A, accompanying the Group A winners, Qatar.
This success was confirmed in the final match against Jordan at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Qatar, on Sunday (21/4/2024). The match ended with Indonesia’s 4-1 victory over Jordan. Shin Tae-yong admitted that he was very happy to be able to advance with his squad to the quarter-finals of the 2024 U23 Asian Cup.
He said that he wanted to share the happiness of this victory not only with his players, but also with all supporters of the Indonesian national team. “I am very happy to be able to qualify for the quarter-finals. I would like to say a big thank you to the players,” said Shin Tae-yong after the match. “I want to share this victory not only with the players, but also with all fans of the Indonesian national team,” he added.
After making new history for the Indonesian U23 national team in the 2024 U23 Asian Cup, Shin Tae-yong still wants to strive for better results. Shin Tae-yong will prepare his best ahead of the quarter-final match. “This is only 50 percent of what I targeted. I don’t know the opponent in the quarter-final match yet, but I will watch their match and prepare my best,” said Shin Tae-yong.
Later, the Garuda Muda squad will face the champions from Group B, either South Korea or Japan. The two new teams will compete this Monday (22/4/2024). Asked about the possibility of facing Japan later, Shin Tae-yong firmly did not underestimate his opponent and was optimistic about his squad. “Japan has good players, this will be a difficult match for us. However, we will not give up and we have time to prepare. We will do our best,” said Shin Tae-yong.
