Sevilla were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid in the continuation of the Spanish League match at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium, Sunday (21/3).
Striker Youssef En Nesyri threw away a golden opportunity for Sevilla to excel early in the match. En Nesyri’s kick in the fifth minute was not on target.
The visitors to Sevilla dominated the game and attacks in this match. In the 18th minute, En Nesyri got another chance, but his header was saved by goalkeeper Roberto.
The host could press Sevilla several times. Valladolid, however, had problems with key passes and finishing. One of them was Sergi Guardiola’s kick in the 32nd minute which was still too weak to overlook goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
Even though Sevilla continued to press him, Valladolid actually had the opportunity to score a goal first. Valladolid got a penalty after Shon Weissman was violated by Diego Carlos and Karim Rekik in the forbidden box in the 41st minute.
After reviewing the VAR, the referee stated Carlos violated Weissman. Fabian Orellana, who became the executor, did not waste the penalty opportunity to bring Valladolid 1-0 ahead in the 44th minute.
Sevilla continued to provide threats to Valladolid in the second half. Jules Kounde’s shot in the 50th minute was wide of Valladolid’s goal.
Valladolid responded to Sevilla’s attack with an attempt from Guardiola in the 54th minute, only that he had yet to produce a goal.
Substitute Ivan Rakitic’s attempt to equalize for Sevilla has yet to materialize. A bait from Alejandro Gomez in the 72nd minute was greeted by Rakitic by placing his left foot, but it was quite easy for the goalkeeper to catch the ball.
In the 77th minute Luuk de Jong wasted a golden opportunity to score a goal. Lucas Ocampos’s mature cross from the right was not able to be headed well by De Jong after his header hit the post.
Valladolid’s victory that was in sight vanished after Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou equalized in the minutes of injury time after receiving Jules Kounde’s assist who took advantage of chaos in front of the home goal. The final score of the two teams is 1-1.
